Todays Reflection

Today in DF Mr. Ward took us into the workshop and showed us how to do the things we need to know to make our desk tidy. We learnt about the polymer we were using and what different ntoools we needed to nuse to change the shape of it.

NOTES:
  • we can use PVC pipeand acrylic tubing which come in all different dimenssions to help build the structure of our desk tidy
  • Acrylic cement- melts and binds to pieces of acrylic together whilst glueing, most commonly used with right angles (do not get near eyes)
  • Strip heater- can bend acrylic to any angle and looks neater than glueing and is stronger
  • thermoplastic and goes floppy when heated
  • Do not touch the stip bit of strip heater
  • an oven is used to make a whole piece of acrylic floppy
  • acrylic ios HOT and floppy when it comes out of the oven and can be then bent around anything!!
  • HOT acrylic gets COLD quickly
  • you cut acrylic with band saw, acrylic gets chipped when using band saw so you then have to sand the chips out
  • You have to turn turn the oven off in two places and make sure you  turn it on 10mins before using
  • a spade drill bit is used when making holes in acrylic
  • You can use the press drill if you want but the power drill is better
  • spade drill bits come in various diifferent dimensions (Large-Small)
  • You have to drill slowly when using the spade drill
