NETS
These are all the different nets for my desk tidy. I have put measurements on every single one so when I go in the workshop I know exactly what I want to do and can just do it. Doing my desk tidy by using nets it will be alot more easier and I will have more time to get the asthetics right in the work shop.
Video Report-Designers
- designers often start with an existing problem and build on it
- its a lot easier to design a product in your mind then draw or sketch it
- started with evaluating what aleeady exsisted, investigated and researched
- low densisty polyethylene was used to make the lids
- Asthetics were very very important
- a computer controlled cutter moulds the design out of the die
- a lot of effort and design these days put into design

Cord Cleaner
This is the final design I am going to choose to tidy my cords. This is going to be an accesory that is going to sit in my desk tidy.

Reflection 14/03/12
Today in DF I made a few changes to the design of my desk tidy and talked to Mr. Ward about the different ways that I could make something that will tidy up my cords. I thought about this and thought it could just be an extra accessory that i can sit in my desk tidy so it would still fit the criteria of being 200mm X 200mm. I started making sketches of my new design on grid paper but havent done any on isometric paper yet. Today's lesson was really good and I also had a look at the different colours of acrylic that are available.

Cord Cleaner Idea 2
On the side of my desk tidy I could put a shape like holder that is sililar to the shape of what you get when you by ribbon. By this I mean the holder that the ribbon is usually wrapped around. This could work similar for cord, but then I would have to have a stopper or a clasp that would stop the cord from un-coiling after I wrapped the cord around it.
Idea

This is an idea I had whilst looking at other desk tidys. i thought I could make my desk tidy so the charging cord for my phone can come up through it. If I did this it would me just like a doc for my phone and my phone would have a place to sit at the same time.
Idea about Cords
I was thinking of other ways I could tidy up my desk when I thought of having a desk tidy that would be able to hold cords. This would be really helpful for me as I have cords all over my desks in boarding. This would also help the cords become less tangled. All have got to think and investigate for now is how im going to do this and that I have to work with the materials I have access to.

Todays Reflection
Today in DF Mr. Ward took us into the workshop and showed us how to do the things we need to know to make our desk tidy. We learnt about the polymer we were using and what different ntoools we needed to nuse to change the shape of it.
NOTES:
NOTES:
- we can use PVC pipeand acrylic tubing which come in all different dimenssions to help build the structure of our desk tidy
- Acrylic cement- melts and binds to pieces of acrylic together whilst glueing, most commonly used with right angles (do not get near eyes)
- Strip heater- can bend acrylic to any angle and looks neater than glueing and is stronger
- thermoplastic and goes floppy when heated
- Do not touch the stip bit of strip heater
- an oven is used to make a whole piece of acrylic floppy
- acrylic ios HOT and floppy when it comes out of the oven and can be then bent around anything!!
- HOT acrylic gets COLD quickly
- you cut acrylic with band saw, acrylic gets chipped when using band saw so you then have to sand the chips out
- You have to turn turn the oven off in two places and make sure you turn it on 10mins before using
- a spade drill bit is used when making holes in acrylic
- You can use the press drill if you want but the power drill is better
- spade drill bits come in various diifferent dimensions (Large-Small)
- You have to drill slowly when using the spade drill
Planning
This is just ba quick planning set out that Mr. Ward drew on the board and I thought it might be useful for the future so I took a picture of it.
Ideation For Desk Tidy
I think this is nearlly the exact type of desk tidy I would like to make. As it casn hold everything I would like it to hold and is different but not odd looking.
The second image is just a quick front on sketch I drew in some spare time of what I would like to make and the little changes I wanted to make.

EVALUATION!
Evaluation
To make my light I used the design process of ideating, investigating, producing and as I am now evaluating. When I ideated I looked for other images and used Mr. Wards power point to look at different designs of lights. Then I investigated these different designs and thought about what shape would suit the place I am going to put my eco lamp. Once I had thought about which design I wanted I put it on to paper with designing. I started off with a few different sketches and then I drew a final design. Then I finally got to the good part or design futures! Well I think it is producing (making) the product. This was a lot of fun as I learnt how to do many new different things and got to be physical and make things. Once I had finished and made the final touches to my light I got to the stage of where I am now evaluating.
When I was designing my eco lamp I had to think about 4 different aspects of design:
Function:
This is one of the most important aspects of design. My lamp does function and do what it supposed to do, which is produce light. My lamp is efficient in the way that it does its job of producing light whenever or where ever I need it to and is just generally fantastic! It is also very effective, my light is effective in the way that I made it to produce light for when I am reading and lying in my bed in boarding. It is also effective in the way that it is a good size and produces the right amount of light. My eco lamp could be improved by having a bigger base on it. If it had a bigger base it would be just that extra bit more stable. It could also be improved if it had a switch closer to the light instead of having to turn it on at the power point every time I want to use it.
Aesthetics:
Aesthetics is whether or not it looks good. I think my aesthetics of my eco lamp are excellent! The jarra wood looks good and especially with the extra bit of oil to make it look more elegant and darker. The aluminum has a good shape and is all shiny which makes it look even better! The one thing I wanted was for my cord to be neat and tidy. I think if you have a messy cord it just wrecks the whole look of the overall project.
Economics:
Economics relates to money and how much it cost. I worked out that my light cost $13 including all the materials. I think this is a cheap cost and was defiantly efficient money wise. If it were a big company making the eco lamp they would have to allow for the cost of the workers making the light and how much there time is worth. You would have to allow for the postage of the materials and a lot of other things as well.
Ergonomics:
Ergonomics relates to the human body like if it were a pair of shoes are they comfortable. But for my light it more in the way that is it stable? Or is easy to use? My light is all of these things! It is extremely stable and very easy to use. It is very handy and does whatever I need it to do. The light is also not to bright and put out the right amount of light I need.
Todays Reflection
Today in design we pretty much spent the whole lesson discussing our new design brief which is to make a desk tidy. We also went and saw the new area which the coffee shop people have built up. In the new design brief we can design our desk tidy to pretty much tidy up everything that is on my desk from books, pens and paper to sunnies, phone, ipad and wallet. I am really excited to start this and think it will be a great addition to my desk to tidy it as I a boarder!

Design Reflection
Today in DF we wrote our evaluation and I made it very particular!! I am very proud of soo far and think I am going to get a good mark for it!!
